Introduction Blog: My Journey into Analytics and the Quest for Data Science Mastery

Hey everyone! If you’ve landed here, it’s likely fueled by curiosity about what I’m diving into lately. I’m Sathish, a 23-year-old grad student tackling Quantitative Management aka Business Analytics at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Management. So, one of my goals for 2024 is to share what I’m learning, and here’s the first step! What can you expect? Well, I’ll be delving into anything related to data that captivates me—be it decoding difficult concepts, sharing solutions from analytical competitions, or unravelling SQL solutions from my courses. In short, it’s all about data! If you enjoy reading about data, learning new things, or making a move into the world of data, I believe my blogs will be helpful for you, and you’re in the right spot. So, stick around!

My journey kicked off during my undergrad days when I discovered my love for numbers. Even though I was majoring in Computer Science and Engineering, diving into the world of data science felt like a mystery. So, I took some IBM courses on data science through Coursera to get a grasp. I dabbled in a few competitions for hands-on experience, but calling myself a data scientist still seemed like a distant goal.

Grateful for the opportunity to delve into the sports world as a data analyst, I seized the chance to refine my skills and establish a solid foundation. Reflecting on my early days, I started with minimal knowledge. Fast forward to the present, and I now confidently navigate the realms of Python, Tableau, SQL, build ETL pipelines, and set up databases—covering a diverse skill set. Credit is due to the dynamic startup environment that served as an ideal platform for continuous self-learning. I was strongly drawn to shifting into a data scientist role which has always been my dream. This led me to the decision to pursue an MQM degree from Duke, aligning perfectly with my long-standing aspirations and goals, especially as I aimed to bridge the knowledge gap hindering my path to becoming a data scientist.

With just five months left until graduation, I’m excited to confidently label myself as a data scientist. I’m actively on the lookout for full-time opportunities, eager to dive into real-world challenges and make a meaningful impact. Concurrently, I’m launching this blog to share my knowledge and contribute to the broader community. If you’ve read this far, thank you for your time, and I truly appreciate your support. Stay tuned for more!
